一、用法
1、both與名詞、代詞連用
(1)both＋(of)＋the/物主代詞/指示代詞+名詞
(2)both直接修飾名詞時，不加of。
(3)在人稱代詞前一定要用both of，不能說both we或both us，但可以說us both,them both等。
2、both與動詞連用
當both在句中作主語的`同位語時，也可與動詞連用，both在句中的位置有以下兩種情況：
(1)放在是動詞be之後。
(2)放在行為動詞前。
3、both作代詞時，可單獨使用，其後不接名詞。
both表示兩者都…是個副詞，也可以做代詞，例：
副詞：We are both students.
代詞：Both of us are students.
它的否定形式是neither，詞性和both一樣，例：
副詞：We are neither,tudent.注意是單數名詞。
代詞：Neither of us IS a student.同樣注意也是單數。
二、位置
1、一般在放在動詞be，情態動詞和助動詞之後，實義動詞之前。
如They are both teachers.=Both of them are teachers.
他們倆都是老師。
2、作定語時後跟名詞複數。
There are many trees on both sides of the road .
公路兩旁有許多樹。
