在迴歸時，老漁夫一再遭到了鯊魚的襲擊，他用盡了所有的辦法來對付這條鯊魚。回到港灣時，只剩魚頭魚尾和一根骨頭。儘管魚肉已經被鯊魚吃完了，但他的意志並沒有消失。
這個故事主要告訴了我們可以被受傷害，但不能被打敗。以前，我做什麼事情如果做不好，只會退縮，有的時候我只會說喪氣的話。每次考試的時候我都沒有把握，擔心自己考不好。
《老人與海》中，老漁夫和鯊魚搏鬥，魚叉被鯊魚給帶走了。他把小刀綁在槳上面胡亂扎扎。刀子折斷了，老漁夫用一根短的棍子。短棍也給丟了，他用舵來打。這些主要就是告訴我們不要沒有信心。
